Bike Trails
Marathon County, Wisconsin, boasts many biking opportunities for recreational and avid cyclists. Nestled amid the rolling landscapes of the central part of the state, the region is dotted with scenic trails, ranging from the picturesque Mountain-Bay State Trail, which stretches 83 miles, to the more localized Nine Mile County Forest, perfect for mountain biking enthusiasts. The county's diverse terrains offer challenges and vistas for every level, from serene countryside routes for road biking to rugged mountain biking through forested trails. With its commitment to maintaining and expanding bike paths, Marathon County is truly a cyclist's haven in the heart of Wisconsin.
CWOCC maintains six main trail areas in conjunction with Marathon County Park, mainly offering mountain biking, some gravel riding, and fat tire biking in winter.
Big Eau Pleine County Park
Just 15 minutes southwest of Mosinee, Big Eau Pleine County Park boasts 8 miles of technical single track paired with 12 miles of developed trails. Traverse through hardwoods, catch glimpses of the Big Eau Pleine Flowage, and share the trails with deer and other wildlife. In winter, experience the thrill of groomed snow bike trails with tire widths of 3.8 inches or greater.
Nine Mile County Forest
Only 15 minutes west of Wausau, Nine Mile County Forest offers over 12 miles of single-track trails and 20 miles of wide trails for all levels of mountain bikers.Season passes are available for purchase, offering flexibility for your biking needs. Plus, pedal-assist electric mountain bikes (eMTB) are welcome, adding an extra element of adventure to your ride.
Sylvan Hill Park
Discover Sylvan Hill Mountain Bike Park, the newest trail system in the Wausau area. With three miles of trails, four downhill options, and a pump track, it's a one-of-a-kind biking experience. The park is multi-use, so be courteous to pedestrians, and feel free to refine your skills in the small skills area.
Underdown and Prairie Dells
Explore the legendary network of Underdown, a challenging single track with lakes, bermed boardwalks, and hills through the vast Lincoln County Forest. Combine it with Prairie Dells for an adventure stretching beyond 30 miles. In winter, enjoy swoopy fat biking on the groomed trails.
Ringle Trails
Located at the Marathon County Landfill, the Ringle Trail System offers 10-11 miles of machine-constructed loops. The trails feature jump, gap, and drop features, providing an exciting experience for riders. Don't miss the winter riding experience on groomed trails.
